IPC J-STD-001 Training and Certification Program

The IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies has emerged as the preeminent authority for electronics assembly manufacturing. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections. The standard emphasizes process control and sets industry-consensus requirements for a broad range of electronic products.

IPC's J-STD-001 Training and Certification Program is built on a train-the-trainer instructional model. A company seeking to create an IPC Licensed J-STD-001 Certified IPC Trainer sends their candidate to an IPC Licensed J-STD-001 Certification Center. The training program uses soldering labs and demonstrations as well as classroom instruction to teach the standard criteria.

Certified IPC Trainer candidates who successfully complete the soldering workmanship portions of the course and the certification examination are given the instructional materials needed for training Application Specialists. The Application Specialists training is "modularized," meaning that training on the entire document is not required. Application Specialists must be trained on the introductory section, and then may be trained on other modules covering: wires and terminals, through hole technology, surface mount technology and inspection.

Instructor training requires the use of lead-free solder for at least 50% of the workmanship projects. The type of solder alloy used for application specialist training is optional, based on the needs of the company.

IPC's J-STD-001 Training and Certification Program provides individuals with a valuable, portable credential that recognizes their understanding of the J-STD-001. This program is offered as a service to industry, therefore its adoption is not a precondition for any company to purchase the standard or claim that the build product to its requirements.

 

IPC A-610 Training and Certification Program

IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies is the most widely used standard published by the IPC. With multiple language versions, it has an international reputation as the source for end product acceptance criteria for consumer and high reliability printed wiring assemblies.

An industry developed and approved program that includes training, certification and instructional materials based on the IPC-A-610 is available to your company. This certification will demonstrate your commitment to customer requirements and greatly assists any company dedicated to ISO-9000 or other quality assurance initiatives.

This training and certification has immediate recognition, legitimacy and value throughout the electronics industry. Thousands of individuals have been trained to be IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Trainers. A comprehensive and technically accurate program, IPC-A-610 Training and Certification provides Certified IPC Trainers with high quality materials and detailed instructional plans for training Application Specialists at all levels, including buyers, sales teams and management.

IPC-A-610 Training and Certification program has two tiers of instruction. Ceritified IPC Trainer candidates are sent by their parent companies to receive intensive training on the IPC-A-610 from an IPC authorized certification center. Candidates are certified once they complete their course of study and pass the certification examinations. If they feel they do not need the traing course, candidates may opt to take a "challenge test" administered by one of the certifcation centers. Certified IPC Trainers are provided instructional materials for training Application Specialist in a modular training program. Certified IPC Trainers are considered certified for two years after the course completion date. They must then re-certify at an IPC authorized certification site.

 

IPC 7711 and IPC 7721 Training and Certification Program

This train-the-trainer program teaches industry-approved techniques on through hole and surface mount rework, land, conductor and laminate repair. It also provides a flexible, highly skills-oriented training program with teaching materials that enable a qualified representative from your company to train operators on a variety of procedures from the IPC-7711B/7721B Rework of Electronic Assemblies/Repair and Modification of Printed Boards and Electronic Assemblies.

 Companies participating in IPC's Rework, Repair and Modification Program send candidates to approved IPC-7711/7721 training centers for forty hours of intensive, hands-on instruction. Candidates who pass the classroom exam and skills demonstrations are recognized by IPC as "Certified IPC Trainers," and leave with a lesson plan, visuals and materials for training Application Specialists on up to nine different assembly rework and repair modules. IPC-7711/7721 Certified IPC Trainers are certified for two years.


The Certified IPC Trainer course covers common rework and repair techniques. Application Specialist training is modular and only the introductory module, Common Procedures, is a required element. Other Application Specialist level modules are taught based on a company's needs. Application Specialists are certified for two years for each module taken.
